ROLE OF FSSAI
FSSAI lays down science-based standards for articles of food and regulates their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.
Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006
The Act aims to establish a single reference point for all matters relating to food safety and standards, by moving from multi- level, multi- departmental control to a single line of command. To this effect, the Act establishes an independent statutory Authority – the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India with head office at Delhi.
Always render more and better service than is expected of you, no matter what your ask may be.
The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and is responsible for promoting public health through regulation and supervision of food safety. The FSAAI has its headquarters at New Delhi and is headed by a non-executive Chairperson, appointed by the Central Government. In 2021, with the aim of benefitting industries involved in manufacturing, handling, packaging and selling of food items, FSSAI decided to grant perpetual licenses to restaurants and food manufacturers on the condition that they file their returns every year.
