Overview

Ministry of Corporate Affairs issues Directors’ Identification Numer (DIN). It is an identification number for Directors of a company or Designated Partners of an LLP.

Who has to file?

According to Rule 12A of The Companies Rules, 2014, every person who has a DIN on 31st March of a financial year shall submit e-form DIR-3-KYC to the Central Government on or before 30th September of the following year. So the DIN-KYC has to be done yearly.

Documents Required

• Permanent address proof- Copy of Aadhaar card/ Driving license/ Voter’s Identity card
• Present address proof- Telephone/ Mobile bill

       Electricity bill/ Water bill

       Bank statement/ Bank passbook

       (Anyone, not older than two months)

• Copy of passport- Mandatory if Director holds a valid passport
• Copy of Aadhaar card- Mandatory if Director has a valid Aadhaar card

Penalty for late filing

If the Director fails to file his DIN-KYC on or before 30th September of the year on MCA 21 portal, the department will mark the DIN as ‘Deactivated’ due to Non-filing of DIR-3 KYC.

Important points to note

• For authorisation, the DIN has to engage a professional (CS-Chartered secretary/CA-Chartered Accountant /CMA-Cost Management Accountant) for certification of DIN-KYC.
• The person should have a valid Digital Signature Certificate.
